Nutrition - Making Healthy Food Choices

We promote healthy food choices through arts and crafts, gardening, recipes and cooking, games, songs, worksheets and providing healthy snacks and vitamins. An activity guide is being compiled and will be available for volunteers and organizations promoting good nutrition to vulnerable populations.  If you are interested in helping expand this guide, either with translation or other resources, let us know.

For $5.00, we can provide nutritious snacks or a meal

for up to 20 participants in Salvador, Brazil.

WhyTeach Nutrition?

Nutrition is an important life skill even as important as reading or math. What children eat or don't eat can affect their health, growth and ability to learn. By teaching nutrition, participants learn a skill they will use the rest of their lives, and that is making healthy food choices.

  • Good Nutrition and Learning are Connected! When children's nutritional needs are met, it's easier for them to focus and learn. Well-nourished children score higher on tests, have better school attendance and have fewer behavior problems

  • Nutrition Education Provides the Foundation for Lifelong Healthy Habits. Research shows that the knowledge and skills children learn today on hos to choose healthier foods will carry on into adulthood.

  • Volunteers and Organizations are Positive Role Models: When volunteers and leaders talk about good nutrition and choose healthy foods, there's a good chance children will too!
